Ansata Halim Shah was one of the most influential Straight Egyptian breeding stallions of the late 20th century. Ansata Halim Shah was bred by Donald and Judith Forbis of Ansata Arabian Stud. His sire *Ansata Ibn Halima was bred by the Egyptian Agricultural Society of Egypt. Ansata Halim Shah’s dam Ansata Rosetta was bred by Ansata Arabian Stud, and she was out of the extremely good Bukra family of the Dahman Shahwan strain. Ansata Rosetta’s sire was the inbred stallion Ansata Shah Zaman, by and out of the excellent full siblings *Morafic and *Ansata Bint Mabrouka. These full siblings were also bred by the Egyptian Agricultural Organization, with *Morafic being exported to Gleannloch Farms in 1965, and *Ansata Bint Mabrouka going to Ansata Arabian Stud six years prior in 1959. Ansata Halim Shah originally established important breeding families in the United States, Germany, and Qatar, but today his influence is seen worldwide.

Ansata Halim Shah was one of the most perfectly balanced individuals of any bloodline. Balance was often attributed to the Dahman Shahwan strain, but it was exemplified to a particularly high degree in Ansata Halim Shah. He had a short back, a beautifully shaped long neck, a clean throatlatch, an arched tail carried high and straight, an excellent croup and hip, small ears, and a beautiful head. He produced numerous notable sons, daughters, grandsons, and granddaughters.

One of the biggest challenges a breeder faces with a stallion like Ansata Halim Shah is how to replace him. Although Ansata Halim Shah produced several sons and daughters whose quality was none other than excellent, perhaps the horse who reflected his image most closely was *Al Adeed Al Shaqab, who ironically was Ansata Halim Shah’s last recorded son.

The bottom two photos on this page were taken in 1993, not long before Ansata Halim Shah was exported to Al Shaqab Stud in Doha, Qatar. Judith Forbis commented that these pictures were possibly the last pictures taken of Ansata Halim Shah on US soil.
